'DO NOTHING CLUB' - Meryll Rogge & Beni Bischof installation at MoMu's collection presentation
Now on view at the collection presentation of MoMu - Fashion Museum Antwerp: 'DO NOTHING CLUB', an installation by Meryll Rogge and Beni Bischof in which fashion, art and domestic objects all merge.
The collection presentation sheds light on avant-garde Belgian and international fashion, with an alternating presentation of silhouettes and archive material from the MoMu Collection. In this installation by the Belgian designer Meryll Rogge and the Swiss artist Beni Bischof, fashion, art and domestic objects all merge. Meryll Rogge studied at the fashion department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. After working with Marc Jacobs and Dries Van Noten, she launched her own fashion house in 2020. For her Spring-Summer 2023 collection, entitled MADE ON EARTH BY HUMANS, she collaborated with Beni Bischof.
Bischof’s multimedia art practice is critical and full of humour. His love-hate relationship with the fashion magazines and advertisements of his youth is an enduring source of inspiration that he intentionally seeks out, deconstructs and dismantles. Intrigued by the artist’s playful and turbulent oeuvre, Rogge was able to draw on his archive of collages, drawings and watercolours for her collection. Bischof, in turn, was able to collaborate on the prints for some unique collection pieces, such as an organza top with the words ‘people grow to be strangers’ and a dress in lurex faille with Disney characters from Bambi.
Beni Bischof and Meryll Rogge come together in a colourful visual language that is at once clear, chaotic, intuitive and sensitive. With DO NOTHING CLUB, they reveal how we can look at things critically and nostalgically, and with the necessary humour.
